In 7th grade, all students will participate in Fitnessgram testing. The Fitnessgram tests are similar but different than the Presidential Fitness testing most of us remember (mile run, pullups, shuttle run, etc.) The Fitnessgram measures students level of ability in the 5 health components of fitness:
Cardiovascular Endurance
Muscular Endurance
Muscular Strength
Flexibility
Body Composition
For each component we conduct tests to measure if each student is in a Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) or if they Need Improvement (NI). In the spring we will test them again to look for an improvement in scores.
The tests we conduct are:
PACER Test (tests endurance & calculates VO2 Max)
Back Saver Sit & Reach (tests back flexibility)
Shoulder Stretch (tests shoulder flexibility)
Trunk Lift (tests abdominal flexibility)
Curl up (tests muscular strength and endurance)
Pushup (tests muscular strength and endurance)
Height/Weight/B.M.I. were calculated in Sept. (tests body composition)
We will then use the data collected to adjust our classes, warmups, or units to fit each student and specific class needs.
